Our Story

Mission and Vision

Located in Wendake, the Espace Musée One Onti Max Gros-Louis is dedicated to preserving, documenting, and showcasing the cultural and political legacy of Grand Chief Max “Oné Onti” Gros-Louis and the Huron-Wendat Nation.

As a non-profit organization, the museum’s mission is to ensure that the memory and influence of this visionary leader continue to inspire future generations and strengthen intercultural understanding across Canada and beyond.

The museum offers permanent and temporary exhibitions, community workshops, a documentation and research centre, and educational activities designed to promote Indigenous heritage awareness and Huron-Wendat cultural pride.

Guiding Principles

The ways we keep the circle moving.

Reconciliation

The museum serves as a bridge between Nations, fostering dialogue, acknowledgement, and mutual understanding. Our cultural and educational initiatives restore balance between memory and future, living traditions and new museological practices.

Continuity

We preserve languages, songs, objects, and archives while developing programs that help young people become the caretakers of tomorrow. Each action ties the roots of the past to the voices of the present to ensure long-lasting transmission.

Transmission

Espace Max Oné Onti Gros-Louis is mandated to establish, steward, and sustain a museum dedicated to the cultures and memory of First Nations, open to the public in Wendake. The collection—objects, archives, and artworks belonging to Grand Chief Max “Oné Onti” Gros-Louis—is treated as living heritage: every object carries a story and every archive extends a voice.
